It's That Time Of Year...Spring Part 1...

Spring has sprung and the grass had rise I know where the business is.... Everywhere!!! I can't seem to get away from it this time of year, Fighting, Flirting, Feeding and that’s just in my way through town but on a serious note this is just an amazing time of year to be out and about watching the birds and the babies, I just love finding a nest then sitting back in the undergrowth watching the adult birds come and go and tracking the progress and weighting for them to fledge, up to date I have never managed to see a set of chicks fledge, slightly disheartening but as long as a see chick the day before and find and empty untampered nest, it keeps me very happy, recently I have been watching 7 - 8 nest with two fledging in the last week...

I haven’t had anytime recently to keep up to date with my blogs or even spend to much time out and about, due to this I have been spending a lot more time around my local area within ten minuets or less of my house and I have rediscover my love of my local area that I sometimes take for advantage...

Since my last blog I have been working on a series of photographs that I like to think catches the Essence of early spring, I hope that you like the results

Dinner Time Project...

Well... With the weather been nice for the past couple of weeks, I have decided to do a dinner time project, rather then sitting in the canteen or sitting at home, I've been going for a walk around around my local lodge waiting for photo opportunities to arise, and I like to think that they did and I took them, I hope that you think the same...

At Least Somethings Flying...

Well it's a bit of an ironic twist that as all the planes get grounded due to the Icelandic volcano and I do a series of flight shots, with the sun shining and not a cloud in the sky I though that it would be a good opportunity to take a number of flight shots, a series of pictures that I have wanted to take for a long time, I hope you like them...

This is my favourite picture of the set, when I first started with my photography I made a list of specific things that I wanted photograph and a Lapwing in flight was one of my main goals, after been inspired by a picture on Tom Charles' website (his link is displayed to the left) and after two year I have got a shot that I am very happy with, I hope that you like it to...

An Amphibian Afternoon...

Well I had an afternoon out last week in hope of photographing a few frogs, I started by having a walk around one of there usual spawning areas and unusually for me I was right first time around and they were there so I got down low took a few shots then left them up to there business and after looking at my records from last year, they arrived during the exact same week 1 year on, some times nature truly astounds me, how such a small creature can keep track time, I hope that you like the pictures...

After this I headed down to my local river to see if there were any swimming around in the flood pools but surprisingly all I found was toads, hundreds of them, something that I have never seen here before, so I took the opportunity and took a few shots, I hope that you like them...

A Golden Opportunity...

well this is virtually nose bleed territory, 2 blogs in 2 weeks, this week I didn't have much time to spare, so I just went for a walk around a local reservoir, not really expecting to much I just pottered round without a care in the world, after walking for about 10min. I noticed a small group of 3 Goldeneye (1 male, 2 females) milling around very close to the edge, sensing a possible photo opportunity, I sat back and watched the way the moved for a short while, slowly edging towards them, eventually I got my self in a good position, quite well hidden and low to the water and waited, within seconds they were there, no more that 5 - 10 metres away, diving, feeding generally just ducking around, at one point the male started to call in a very strange way, which I think is a Territorial or courtship act, I have never seen this behavior in the wild, only in wildfowl collection such as Martin Mere, the male bird would arc its head and neck back onto its back and then release it forward whilst letting out a strange grunting/quacking call, this behaviour was captured in the first picture below if anyone knows why they do this please let me know. After watching these beautiful duck and taking way to many pictures, I came away to leave them in peace, these really are one of my favourite duck and I'm very happy I had this opportunity to photograph them,
I hope you like them...

"Calling???"
