Nice little break....

Well, all work and no play makes Lee a sad boy, so when I finished early on Monday, I decided to head down to a local park, to see what was around; with just over an hour to play with, I headed down to one particular area that usually throws up a few photo opportunities; on arrival I was nicely surprised to find a Nuthatch flitting around occasionally coming down to feed seemingly oblivious to my presence; feeling rather honoured to watch what is usually a very wary and skittish bird at such close quarters, I quickly settled down and snapped away

"Nuthatch"

Whilst I was sat there watching this stunning little bird, a few others decided to put in an appearance:-

"Song Thrush"

"Great Tit"

Well I hope that you like this selection of pictures, hopefully I'll be able to get out a bit more with half term quickly approaching,

Thanks always Lee Harrison.

Not Quite The Owl And The Pussy Cat...

Again I didn't have much time today, so I just spent a couple of hours down at my local lodge in hope of getting close to one of the many Nuthatch living down there, unfortunately they proved to be very uncooperative as they kept flying in for a matter of seconds before flitting off to feed there young in a near by tree, also two pairs of Magpie kept bobbing around and collecting food to take back to there nests, Greater spotted Woodpecker made a nice appearance also around were Collared Doves, Wood pigeons, Jays, Chaffinch, Robin, blackbirds, squirrels and for me the highlight of the day been a lovely pair of male and female bullfinch dropped in twice for a feed, they didn't seem to be taking any food away but we can only hope that they are rearing young somewhere near by.

When I was there I took a particular interest in a squirrle that happy sat feeding next to each other and kinda made me laugh...

Squirrel

Yesterday I went for a walk down Curlew Lane and came across this odd looking critter, I wondered if anyone could help me I.D. it?

If it help it was large at around 4inchs long.

Anyway I hope that you like this blog and you'll visit again,

Thanks always Lee Harrison.

Local Area..

I have a trip round the local turfs today with my Dad, I havn't bin out for a week so I was up for a good day, first we started off at Marshside, all the usuals knocking around, Reed and Sedge Warblers singing in the reeds, plenty of wheatears around the sand plant and reports of a Green Sandpipers and whitethroats sings near Crossens.

Unfortunatly we didn't manage to catch up with the whitethroat or the green sandpiper but plenty of othes knocking around including 3 Little Ring Plover, and Ruff feeding infront of Nell's hide:-

Wheatear

Greenfinch

Kestrel

After we had finished at Marshside, we decided to head over Mere Sands Wood, nothing unusual around, chiffchaffs singing in the tops of trees, no sign of the Crossbills today and no Redpolls either, but we got some nice views of the Nuthatch, and buzzard as we walked around:-

Nuthatch

Bullfinch

Buzzard

After Mere Sands, we decided that we'd go home and et some tea but as soon as we'd finished, we were back out to White Coppice trying to add more to our daily tally, and we managed to add a few more, including:-

Willow Warbler

Greater Spotted Woodpecker

Raven (a very nice surprise)

And last but deffinatly not least this bird?????? we thought definatly a Falcon of sum sort, we, though it was a merlin at first because of the size of it, it was tiny but when I think back to the sights we've had of the Merlin at Marshside, it seemed smaller than that. After looking at the pics and trying to find what it was, we really have no idea, it has a brown back and wing, an unmarked buff breast, not many head marks apart from a very distinct eye strip, witch if you look closley, you can see.

Sorry about the distant pics, but if anyone can tell me what this bird is please help....

Thanks always Lee Harrison

You've Heard of Doggy Style... Now what About Froggy style?

I had a walk through Birkacre last week at evening time, lots of little birds knocking about on the feeders and in the top of the trees, which included a very nice Nuthatch, Tree Creeper, Bullfinch and all the small tits and finches that you might expect...
Nuthatch

Tree Creeper

Bullfinch

On my way through I came across a group of Common Frogs indulging in a bit of "rumpy pumpy" in a small pool covered in algae a sure sign that spring is on its way and the warmer weather is coming. Here are a few pics. I took whilst the Light was still with me although a some of my pics were taken with a rear flash, they ain't the best pics but its not as if I'm a pro.:-

Common Frog

And the finished product, the next generation of of baby frog ready to grow into the gorgeous amphibian's we see today...

Anyway I hoped you like my blog and you will visit again, please feel free to leave and comments.

Fly Away Home...

First Blog "Woo Hoo"

I had a few hours spare today so I decided to drop in at Marshside for a bit. Generally very quiet all the winter birds starting to disappear now, flying off to the summer home, now we're just waiting for the summer ones to come back and keep us occupied ; it should only be a few weeks now before we start seen the first Wheatears bobbing around. All the usual stuff around really, although I did get a nice close up view of a Blackwit when it decided pop in and land next to sandgrouse hide.

I managed to pick up a peregrine over the outer marsh on my way down Marine Diver but once I got to the hide it had flown out of sight, whilst I was there a kestrel flew over causing havoc for all the small bird but no real concern.

Once I had finished at the marsh I still had sometime spare so I decided to shoot over to Mere Sand Wood before I went home, nothing special around but I managed to get a few nice pictures of the small birds knocking around the woods and reed beds;

Robin

Great Tit

Nuthatch

I hope that you enjoyed the first day of my blog/photography sight and i hope that you will come and visit it again.
