Bempton Cliffs Part 3, Razorbills and Guillemots...

Part 3, the Razorbills and Guillemots, two of the more wide spread and abundant sea birds but surprisingly hard to photography from the cliffs as the fly close to the
sea and usually stay lower down on the cliffs but I gave it a bit of time and I hope that you like the results;

I will start off with the Razorbills, these proved the hardest bird to photograph while I was away and I didn't quite get the shot that I wanted but this will just give me an incentive to return next year;

Bempton Cliffs Part 2... Gannets...

Well here is part 2, the Gannets... These truly are one of my Favourites birds, so graceful and manoeuvrable for such large birds and there were so many of them I thought they would be easy to get photos of but because there were so many, you never new were to point your lens...

I started off around the Gannet colony with a few of the stationary birds;

After this I turned my attention to the many birds taking to the skies, this time of year there were a lot of juvenile birds around and when in flight you can really see the difference;

I saw this bird flying up and down almost unhindered but I can't help but think this might be the end of it, when I first took this picture, I thought that it was carrying weed back to it's nest for nesting material but on a closer inspection I found that it was a fishing net wrapped around it's neck... Been a fisherman myself I find this a very upsetting image and one I wish that I didn't have the chance to take...

Bempton Cliffs Part 1 PUFFINS!!!

My Mum and Dad had a week away last week, they headed over to the east coast just up from Bridlington, so they could visit Bempton Cliffs and Flamborough head to see the Puffins and the sea bird colonies, whilst they were over they, they were kind enough to invite Charlotte and Me over for 3 days so I would have a chance for a spot of photography as it something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time but never had the chance to go across.

I decided to start with what most people would call the stars of the show, and the main reason that we went across but I love all the birds, it’s just an amazing place to be, all these pictures were taken at the Bempton Cliffs nature reserve, I hope that you like them

I left this picture in because it made me laugh, I though it looked like a sky diving Puffin, I hope you see it or maybe I'm just crazy,

Ahhh Southport...

Well I managed to get out for a days birding over to Marshside, it was so nice to get back to the usual grounds after a break, I started off the day in Sandgrounders Were as always I started snapping away at the summering Avocets, these must be pictures 1 million and 2 and 3 in my Avocet album, such a beautiful and recognisable bird, I cant stop taking pictures of them,

Once I had finished taken pictures of the Avocets I turned my attentions to the swallows shooting over the surface of the water catching flies and coming down for the occasional drink as I started to photograph them a covering of cloud started to encroach over the marsh, so this proved rather tricky;

After this I headed down to Nels hide which was quite quiet, a photogenic Godwit and a flying Shelduck were the only things to attract the attentions of my camera;

After a short stay in Nels, I headed around the sand plant to see what I could find, lot of little birds knocking around but the skylarks and Meadow Pipits were the stars of the show;

Well I have been spending quite a lot of time around my local area recently due to rising fuel cost and my dwindling funds but I have managed to get out from time time, a few weeks back now I took a trip out Martin Mere for the day, which proved to be quite rewarding;

First thing I headed down Curlew Lane to see if I could catch up with a few of the regulars, on my way down I came across a cracking little Corn Bunting on one of its favourite perches;

Photobucket

After a 10 minuet wait the other regular turned up and today it decided to land relatively close to the car rather than a blob the other side of a plowed field which it what you usually see, a beautiful yellow Wagtail, a bird that when I see it I always feel that I am seeing something very special;

After this great start I headed into Martin Mere were this just got better, one of the first sights that I was greeted with was this little critter that I spotted dragging an almost fully grown Woodpigeon chick across the path in front of me, stopping in the grass to see if I was a threat I took the opportunity to snap him or her up;

Photobucket

continuing into In Focus I was disappointed find out that the recent spoonbill hadn't been sighted for the past two day but as I was stood there engrossed in conversation my dad gave out a shout, Spoon...Spoon... Spoonbill, as we had been stood there, a pair in full breeding plumage, possible the pair that had been spotted up and down the Douglas, I Like to think that I got a few nice shots and I hope that you agree, either way they are better than my first picture (see earlier on my Blog);
